Mint mate would have been a better first time experience, everythin g works a lot better. If you're an experienced and advanced Linux user: the Github account of lwfinger contains even more drivers for wireless chipsets. I tried Linux Mint Debian Ed (LMDE) and really liked it, and liked the fact that it is using Debian as a base rather than Ubuntu. have a peek here
