I got the battery charging again by reconnecting and disconnecting the magnetic charger to the MacAir a few times. Make sure it's not discolored or warped. I got the metal piece out and sure enough the light came on in the charging chord.

Also, check for any flaws or frays in the adapter. Despite being a Mac user for over 10 years I still have trouble identifying the "Option" or "command" key.
