It's no big deal but something I shouldn't need to do and something I didn't do once with Mavericks. It seems to work once I plug a HDMI cable and the sound then plays from the TV but nothing changes on the laptop. I keep going into preferences and changing it to line out, and it's good until the next time I reboot my computer. That solved the issue! On youtube sometimes i get one second of audio then nothing. Continue to hold these keys until your Mac restarts. 3 Release the keys when you hear the startup sound again.
