If you plan to control the TV using your Mac from a distance, spend a couple extra bucks on a longer HDMI cable. 15 feet is usually adequate for most cases, Sometimes just increasing the web browser zoom works too for just web video, but that shouldn't be considered universally reliable enough to recommend for all situations. Maybe that input port on your TV is pre-set to expect only separate stereo jacks on that input. Make sure your TV isn't setup to expect audio from it's Stereo input jacks, as if you were connecting via component video and audio.
