They claim the swelling is a safety mechanism that unfortunately interferes with the trackpad. MacBook Pro 17″ trackpads. I just loosened the screw very slightly and it works like new again. Place your MacBook Pro on one of the sides and continue clicking on the trackpad while adjusting the screw.
